“Among those born of women, there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist.”
Elisabeth, the other of John the Baptist is only talked about in one chapter of the Bible, yet she holds such a key responsibility in raising the man that would pave the way for Jesus.
“Both of the were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly. But they had no children, because Elizabeth was barren; and they were both well along in years.”
We see that Zechariah and Elizabeth were chosen and anointed people by God. Coming from the family of Levites and the priestly family of Aaron they lived faithfully and blamelessly in the eyes of the Lord. Yet Elizabeth was barren and without child. Now, back in those days being barren brought upon a sense of reproach and guilt towards Elizabeth. However, though her circumstances she trusts in God and His promises and never ceased to devote herself wholly to Him.
“Blessed is she who has believed that what the Lord has said to her will be accomplished!”
In the end, the Lord had changed Elizabeth’s life forever. Though she had to wait, she was faithful in the waiting. She trusted God through her trial, and was blessed in abundance. Whatever you are going through this Christmas, trust in the Lord’s timing and His plan, and all that He has promised will come to pass.
