LET THERE BE LIGHT

“Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. Then He separated the light from the darkness.”

Genesis 1:3-4

In the beginning, the earth was formless, empty, and covered in darkness. Existence was nothing more than a desolate, trivial, and empty void in a massive Universe. There was no light, there was no life, and there were no bodies of land abounding in mountains, plants, and wildlife. As the Spirit of God hovered above the earth, it was His Word that brought creation to life. At the sound of His voice, masses of land assembled, the sea and sky separated, and the darkness turned to light. By His command, humans were created in His image. We were created to reign over the earth, be fruitful, and multiply.

“…it was His Word that brought creation to life.”

Through our fleeting sight, we can sometimes begin to view our current state of life as empty. It can seem that our value in this world is insignificant and hopeless. When God looked over all He had made, He saw that it was very good! When God looks at us, He takes delight in us. God says that He loves us, that in Him there is freedom, and that He has made His light shine in our hearts. When God speaks, creation comes to life. His Word holds everlasting power and truth. His Word created everything so in Him we lack nothing. To have faith and believe in God’s Word is to find life and life in abundance.
